American recently launched a month-long recycling education project and workshop with at-risk children of transitioning local families in the DC Metro area.
Our communications department was inspired by the After School Program held at Brent Place apartments and run by Community Lodgings, a small, local charity organization. Through the program, children grades 1-12 are educated and mentored on how to manage their time and excel at their studies, as well as make safe, healthy and ethical life choices.
American’s Marketing Director, Alyssa, and I visited Brent Place on October 2nd to educate the students on recycling and inspire them to recycle more at home.
We brought brown paper bags for the kids to decorate and use at home to collect recyclable items throughout the month. Cardboard recycling boxes were also donated for use on each floor of the building.
The kids stayed excited and committed to the project throughout the month and some even requested large recycling boxes to keep in their homes!
At the end of the month-long project we headed back with pizzas and American Disposal Recycling coloring books to host a party celebrating the student’s recycling efforts and success!
American prides ourselves on our numerous charity and outreach partnerships and programs but as we enter the season of giving thanks (and giving back) we wanted to highlight this project especially. We are so proud of these students’ dedication to recycling and the environment, way to go Brent Place!
